Pawn of Prophecy Chapter 13

We start off with Garion and Barak arriving late. Being harassed by silk just serves to keep Barak on edge. The Cherek castle does not look like much. While parts of it look well maintained other parts are in shambles. We also meet Merel, Baraks wife. We soon find out that she has a great sense of duty, but no love for her husband.

The group quickly enters the main hall and begins exchanging formalities with all the other dignitaries. Queen Islena pretends to be a magician and give Pol a gemstone hidden up her sleeve. Pol on the other hand performs and act of magic and pulls a rose from the air for the queen. With that settled, they soon begin deliberating with each other over urgent matters.

They are quick to move the conversation to private quarters. None of them trust others after Brill and Asharak followed them for so long. The kings and queens separate into their respective groups and disperse. All the kings and any necessary servants moved into a private room and bolted the door. Garion notices a Cherek person in a dark green cloak down a corridor breifly.

Garion tries to linger and meander around, but is soon fount out by Polgara. She scolds him yet again and tells him it will be awhile so he should find something to do. Barak suggests going and seeing the armory. Garion slowly scoots his way down towards the armory. Getting a strange feeling, he ducks into the shadows just before. Again he notices the man in the green cloak, but decides to keep it to himself. Nobody would believe a boy anyways.

Next Chapter 14.
