Pawn of Prophecy Chapter 12

The Party leaves early in the morning on a Cherek ship. The king and queen say goodbye to each other. Barak is excited to see his dear friend Greldik is the captain of the ship they will be on. Garion assures himself there is no way that those two are Belgarath or Polgara. At least no way she could be his aunt. He quickly falls asleep after they shove off from shore. Belgarath spoke at length with the king.

The third day proved to be very cold. The ship had ice all over it. Barak tried to reassure Durnik that the Cherek Bore wasn't that bad. Silk protested that he doesn't go through it sober. They wait until the tide changed on the fourth day.

Garion places himself at the front of the ship with Barak as they move through the Bore. First they swirl around the edge a couple of times and then shoot out over the eddies and turbulant waters. The whole experience was exilerating for him. Until Polgara showed up scolding him again. Belgarath is quick to take control and explain to Garion that she is frightened for his safety. That is why she always seems to be overprotective. He apologises to Pol and says he will be more careful in the future.

They dock at Val Alorn and load up in sleighs. Most of the group takes off ahead while Garion waits for Barak to finish his goodbyes. The two soon start off in their ride and Garion is looking about in wonder. Passing the temple of the bear god, An old woman in robes tells Barak that his doom is forthcoming. Barak stops and warns the old hag to watch her toungue or he will silence it for good. As they drive off again the old woman this time speaks to Garion and calls him the greatest of lords. She asks him to remember that it was Martje who first addressed him as such.
